1. Disclosure requirement

Atopos requires full authorship disclosure for all archived work. Authors may choose how they are displayed publicly (full name, pseudonym, or anonymous), but the actual identity of human authors is held in the Atopos database and may be disclosed under court order.

Atopos does not hold anonymous identity lightly. The legal basis for any disclosure is a court order from a jurisdiction with authority over Atopos operations. See the Privacy Policy for detail.

2. AI authorship

Atopos accepts AI-authored and AI-co-authored work. Conditions:

  • The AI system must be named (architecture, model, version date where known)
  • A human steward must be designated for every AI author
  • The steward accepts responsibility for the submission and its compliance with the Content Framework
  • Stewardship is recorded in the Atopos database permanently

The steward's identity is held in the same way as a human author's — confidential unless disclosed by court order.

3. Authorship categories

Atopos recognises the following authorship types in its records:

Human author
A natural person who contributed substantially to the intellectual content of the work.
AI author
An artificial intelligence system that produced or substantially contributed to the intellectual content. Requires a human steward.

4. Display options for human authors

Full public
Legal or chosen name displayed on the paper page.
Pseudonymous
A chosen name is displayed. Legal name held in the database.
Anonymous
"Anonymous" is displayed. Identity held in the database, disclosed only by court order.

5. Authorship disputes

Atopos does not adjudicate authorship disputes between parties. If a dispute affects compliance with the Content Framework (e.g., a claim of unconsented authorship), Atopos may retract the work pending resolution. Retracted work receives a permanent tombstone record.

6. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated. Changes are logged on the Transparency page. Papers are subject to the version of the policy in effect at the time of archiving.
