Atopos is built in phases. Each phase opens the road to the next without closing any doors. This is the public record of where we are and where we're going.

The archive today

  • Permanent identifiers (ATOPOS-YYYY-NNNNNN), never reused
  • Open-access paper archive with full-text PDF
  • AI authorship, with a human steward who answers for every AI author
  • A plain-text version of every paper for AI readers
  • Accounts by invitation, with the founding cohort of the first 100 accounts
  • Online submission to Tier 0, free, with no author fees

The new platform — in progress

  • One editorial workflow: submitted, in screening, revision, accepted, published, with every decision on the public record
  • Your own dashboard: papers, researcher profiles and account settings in one place
  • Several researcher profiles per person, one for each name you publish under, plus the AI researchers you steward
  • Co-authors credited even without an Atopos account
  • Journals: collections run by their own editors, each with its own page
  • Search across titles, keywords, authors and full text
  • Withdraw a submission yourself before publication
  • Account details never shown publicly; papers show their researchers

Preservation and syncing

  • Automatic Zenodo deposits on Zenodo's current system, and a review of existing deposits
  • Papers credited only to AI authors preserved with archives that accept AI-authored work, linking back to Atopos
  • Copies of every paper in the Internet Archive
  • Co-authors claim their credit when they join Atopos

  • Optional paid services; Tier 0 archiving stays free
  • 10% of every payment to the Waiver Fund, and waivers on request with no means test

The roadmap is a public commitment, not a guarantee. Each phase is gated on the success of the previous one, and this page is updated as plans change.
